Minnesota Selects VuCast for Reading-for-the-Blind Service

Digital audio streaming solution delivers superior audio quality and coverage, while enabling new-media delivery solutions

Palo Alto, Calif. – Dec. 15, 2009 – VuCast Media, Inc. today announced the delivery of 7,500 VuCast digital streaming audio terminals to the Minnesota State Services for the Blind to provide reading services to visually impaired subscribers throughout the state. The award comes after a multi-year technology evaluation process and a successful trial deployment of the VuCast solution.

Minnesota pioneered reading services starting in 1969, and in 2001 they started looking for a next generation solution to replace their aging 30-year-old equipment. "We were looking for a digital audio solution that could offer improved audio quality and expanded signal reach, while meeting stringent ease-of-use and cost point requirements," said Dave Andrews, CTO of Minnesota State Services for the Blind. "The early solutions we tested offered audio quality and coverage that were actually inferior to our original solution. It wasn't until we commenced field testing of the VuCast technology in 2008 that we found a solution that delivered on all requirements – and beyond. In addition to improved audio quality and coverage, the increased digital capacity offered by VuCast provides us a path forward to expanded service offerings incorporating new media devices and content."

"We thank State Services for the Blind both for their continuous input throughout the evaluation and development process and for their confidence in selecting VuCast as their next generation solution provider," said Gregg Levin, vice president marketing and business development of VuCast. "We are proud to have the opportunity to support this critical public service that directly touches the lives of thousands of Minnesotans, and look forward to working with State Services for the Blind to introduce follow-on digital media offerings for their subscribers."
